ALL SOCKS AVAILABLE IN SPECIAL BUNDLES
Anyone who spends proper time in the hills knows that gear doesn't need to be flashy—it just needs to work. When you’re hours into a long walk and the weather takes a turn, your comfort usually comes down to the simple things. Few items of kit are as quietly important as a reliable pair of socks.
For years, walkers faced a familiar trade-off. Pure merino wool is soft, warm, and naturally resists odour, but it can hold onto moisture and wear thin at friction points over time. Pure synthetics, on the other hand, are durable and dry quickly, but they lack natural breathability and can retain smells after a hard day on the hill.
When we set out to address this, we didn't rely on guesswork. We went directly to a group of mountain guides and instructors in Scotland who had already spent years wearing our merino socks, and asked them a straightforward question: what more do you actually need from a merino sock?
Their answer was clear and unanimous: faster drying and greater durability.
Asking the question was simple; delivering the solution took time. It required two full years of research, development, and rigorous testing on the hill. When we sent the resulting yarn back to those same guides to put through its paces in real mountain conditions, they were more than satisfied. It delivered precisely what they had asked for, without sacrificing the comfort they relied on. We called it Merino-synergy™.
At its heart, Merino-synergy™ is about craft. You might think of it much like a master blender approaching a fine Scotch whisky, taking two distinct, exceptional ingredients and combining them so that the final character is greater than the sum of its parts.
In this case, we took our superfine merino wool, loved for its soft, natural warmth next to the skin, and blended it seamlessly with recycled superfine polyester in a 50:50 blend. It is a combination where the natural and the technical balance each other out remarkably well.
Rather than simply twisting yarn threads together, this fine-spun 50:50 construction pairs the breathability and comfort of high-quality merino alongside the structural strength and low moisture retention of recycled polyester fibres. The result is a sock engineered specifically around the practical needs of mountain professionals and the realities of unpredictable weather.
Merino wool excels at absorbing moisture vapour, but once thoroughly wet, dense wool takes time to dry out. Incorporating superfine recycled fibres into the 50:50 yarn core helps move moisture away from the skin towards the outer surface far more efficiently. Drier feet means skin is much less prone to rubbing and you have a significantly reduced risk of blisters.
A pair of socks is only useful if it lasts. Standard wool fibres can degrade with repeated friction around the heel and toe. The synthetic element acts as a high-tenacity backbone, helping the sock maintain its shape, cushion, and density through seasons of regular use.
Merino wool naturally traps air to insulate against the cold while remaining breathable. The blend maintains this natural thermoregulation, providing consistent comfort without adding unnecessary bulk inside your footwear.
Crucially, despite being a 50:50 blend, Merino-synergy™ performs every bit as well as pure merino wool in its ability to resist bacterial growth and prevent odour. Because bacteria struggle to thrive on the yarn, you get all the multi-day freshness of natural wool. For long camping or hostel stays, being able to wear a pair for more than two or three days without any issues is a distinct practical advantage.
Sustainability is often discussed in complex terms, but in the outdoors, it frequently comes down to longevity.
Using recycled polyester keeps synthetic waste out of the environment, which is essential. However, the most effective thing any manufacturer can do is build kit that doesn’t need replacing every year. A sock that holds up over years of walking means fewer items bought, less resource consumption, and less waste in the long run.
Great gear should just fade into the background, allowing you to focus on the wilderness around you. TEKO Merino-synergy™ was designed with that exact philosophy in mind: born from real mountain feedback, blended with care, sensible, comfortable, and built to last.
