Melton dates back two hundred years. Its tight weave and dense fibres allow it to perform in the harshest of weather conditions. Melton is very much suited to the extremes of our maritime climate and mountain weather.

Our Simpson shirt made from recycled melton wool is a prime example of why wool has been the fabric of choice in the outdoors for centuries. This classic shirt’s midweight fabric is ideal for cool weather with a vest or in freezing temperatures under a sweater or parka. The Simpson has two chest passport-sized pockets with button-secure flaps.

This wool has already lived one life, the source garments are carefully collected before being sorted, processed and rewoven. Our eco-Melton™ wool also features a felt-like touch that's smoother than other wools and it's manufactured in a unique, dye-free process that conserves water and eliminates the need for harmful chemical dyes. At the end of life every single part of the shirt can be regenerated or recycled to live again. The Fraser shirt is finished with a button-down collar, a drop-in passport sized chest pocket, buttoned sleeve plackets and a curved hem, all secured by two-tone recycled polyester buttons. A double yoke lies comfortably on the shoulders and adds additional weather protection, while a box pleat allows more freedom of movement across the back.

Each shirt is handmade at our workshop in Scotland. Each shirt is numbered and signed by the tailor.

Material: 

• 500g regenerated*, dye-free wool with 20% nylon. *Can also be regenerated at end of useable life.
• Breathable, windproof, water-repellant, eco-Melton™ wool is a densely woven yarn that starts out stiff like a good pair of jeans that softens with wear.
• Wool creates heat when it is damp just like the famous boiled wool mitts from Austria used by mountaineers.
• Its natural properties make it a sustainable and eco-friendly option for those looking for clothing that offers comfort and thermoregulation.
• Wool is naturally fire retardant.
• The lining in the neck is made from a biodegradable cotton/tencel twill fabric.
• Buttons are made from recycled and recyclable polyester.
• Made within a circular economy whereby everything in this shirt is recyclable at the end of its life.

Fit:

• This is a beautifully tailored fit that is designed to be worn over a t-shirt. Go up to the next size if you want to wear it as an over-shirt or shacket.

• We also offer a custom made service whereby we can produce any style with longer or shorter arm and body lengths. Please message us directly to discuss your individual needs.

Care:

• Wash in cold water, place on a wooden coat hanger and hang to dry. eco-Melton™ wool is naturally anti-microbial and stain-resistant. To reduce energy and water usage, we recommend only washing when necessary. Instead, hang the shirt in a steamy showroom and then hang it outside in a gentle breeze to refresh the fabric.
